Happy Holidays! β˜€οΈ

Happy Holidays! β˜€οΈ

For our last art project in Year 1 we used wildflowers to create mandalas. It was a moment of calm in between leavers assemblies, cleaning the classroom, saying our goodbyes and trying to keep cool in the hot weather! The Chalkhill 1 team wanted to thank you all for the very generous gifts, cards, lovely words and happy holiday wishes. We feel very lucky to have seen the amazing growth and progress of your wonderful children and to have had such supportive parents/carers over the last two years.

We wish you all a very lovely summer! 😊

Sunflowers 🌻

Sunflowers 🌻

We were inspired to paint by Van Gogh’s beautiful Sunflowers artwork. We loved using our imagination to add details to the vases and creating colourful backgrounds – they look so bright and summery! πŸ™‚

Wildflower drawings 🌾🌼🌿

Wildflower drawings 🌾🌼🌿

We had a go at drawing dandelions, wildflowers and plants growing in our school grounds. Even though it was really windy we loved sketching outside!

β€˜I could do this all day!’

β€˜I didn’t know I could draw all these flowers!’

β€˜I’m going to do this in my garden at home’

We hope you can Stay and Sketch with us on Wednesday morning (July 10th at 8:45) πŸ™‚

Changing Me πŸ‘ΆπŸ§’

Changing Me πŸ‘ΆπŸ§’

This half term we are learning about how we change as we grow, and how change is okay! During our lesson this week we played a game called β€˜Change’ where we pretended to be different animals, and changed our movements, actions and sounds each time. We looked at the life cycle of a butterfly and had an interesting discussion about how changes happen, sometimes whether we want them to or not.

The children are so excited to show their baby pictures in our next lesson and are looking forward to sharing ideas about how they have changed since they were very young. If you haven’t yet sent a baby photo of your child and would like to, please share with us at year1@damers.dorset.sch.uk πŸ™‚

Collecting colours 🌈

Collecting colours 🌈

We used sticky strips of card to collect different colours from nature in our school grounds. Blue was the hardest colour to find – see if you can spot something this colour to add to your collection! πŸ’™

Archery 🏹

Archery 🏹

Our archery lesson today with an expert teacher was brilliant! Holding the bow, lining up the arrow and aiming for the target was a lot to think about but everyone was so focussed and really tried their best! Well done, Chalkhill! 🎯😊

Wildflower Walk

Wildflower Walk

We had a lovely windy walk to Poundbury Hillfort on Wednesday. Miles King from People Need Nature led the way and taught us how to collect the buttercup seed pods. We loved climbing up and down the ramparts to search for them! Then we walked to the Great Field to squish the pods and sprinkle the seeds amongst the grass.

Thank you very much to Miles and all our adult helpers for a fantastic trip! πŸ™‚

Story planning ✍️

Story planning ✍️

We have been busy planning stories inspired by our current literacy text β€˜Yeti and the Bird’. In the book a travelling bird and the hairiest, scariest (and loneliest) Yeti become friends, even though they are very different. Chalkhill had the challenge of creating two contrasting characters for their own story – there were so many interesting and original ideas! πŸ™‚
