Our sea-themed frottages (art made from rubbings) are looking fabulous! As well as fish the children have created crabs, octopuses, squid, turtles and sharks using this technique! 🦀🐙🦑🦈

A big highlight of our week was meeting Oly Rush from Charity Project Planet Earth. Oly came to speak to Year 1 about plastic pollution and how we can help protect our oceans.

Oly organises regular Litter picks in Dorset that you can take part in with an adult. It is free and all the equipment you need is provided – including litter pickers, gloves and bags.  His next litter pick is Sunday 28th January at Ringstead Bay, 12pm. The shapes and patterns of shells are amazing! We loved feeling the spikes and spirals as we did our observational drawings – and listening for the sea of course! 🌊

Just a reminder about our Christmas Reading Challenge – whether you just pick one or two things or complete them all we hope you get some cosy story times together over the holidays! 🙂

We have been learning about the names and properties of solid (or 3D) shapes. Lots of us challenged ourselves to build models or create them using magnetic blocks. One member of our class has even been looking out for shapes in the local area – they showed us how they found buildings and features that represent each solid shape in our class set! If you fancy a shape hunt as well Poundbury is especially good for 3D shape spotting! 🧐
