Welly Walk

Welly Walk

Thanks very much to all of the parents that were able to help on the walk today. We all had a great time looking for and picking up litter to help keep Poundbury tidy. We hope the children enjoy their own litter picker and are inspired to collect rubbish when out on walks with their families.

Literacy

Literacy

Thanks very much for sending in soft toys this week. The children have loved bringing them to school. We have started a new book in literacy called The Sea Saw, in the story a little girl looses her bear. The children have enjoyed labeling their own toy and are looking forward to finding out what happens to Sophia’s bear.

Phonics

This week we have started phase 5 which introduces new ways to write some of the sounds we have already learnt. These are the new ones for this week. See if your child can tell you what sounds they make!

Can they write them down, remember any of the new words with this grapheme in it or remember the other grapheme we already know eg. ee/ea.

Bling your bike!

Bling your bike!

The children enjoyed showing off their decorated bikes and scooters. We watched the other classes parade their creation around the playground and then we had a turn!

Well done to Torben and April for winning a prize

Not a…

Not a…

The last few weeks we have been reading the books Not and stick and Not a box. We have used our imaginations to pretend and thought of some great things our boxes could be. We made our sticks into wands and imagined what spells they could do.

Farm Animal Visitors!

Farm Animal Visitors!

Today the children were very excited to welcome some farm animals in for a visit. The Ranch in Weymouth brought in the animals for us to meet. The children were excited to meet 2 goats, 2 kids and a pony. They were able to stroke them and brush the pony. The children learnt some facts about the animals and were so excited to have them in our play area!

PE with Mr Senior

This term we have been having our PE sessions with Mr Senior. We have been doing team games, taking turns, lining up, working together and trying out some new PE skills like dribbling, balancing and obstacle races. The children have listened well and really enjoyed the activities.

Kick boxing

We had a visitor in for our PE on Tuesday. The children all had a go at some kick boxing games. They learnt about the stance and guard needed with their arms up over their chests and their leg back. See if they can show you!

Space

The children have loved the start of our space topic. We have asked ‘I wonder’ questions, investigated a crash scene, learnt lots about life in space for the astronauts, made aliens and rockets and written our favourite fact.

Maths- Part Part Whole

Maths- Part Part Whole

This week in maths we have been thinking about addition and seeing how many different ways we can make a number. We can break the number into 2 parts and talk about the whole number staying the same each time. Here is a video of an activity you can try at home.

(This was filmed during lock down so the first part about getting your equipment ready isn’t needed. )
