This beautiful print by Japanese artist Hokusai inspired us to create our own Great Waves! We added colour with pastels – blending different blues and creating movement with curves and swirls.
Our attention to detail was fantastic β can you spot people in the fishing boats and Mount Fuji in the background?
Thanks very much to all of the parents that were able to help on the walk today. We all had a great time looking for and picking up litter to help keep Poundbury tidy. We hope the children enjoy their own litter picker and are inspired to collect rubbish when out on walks with their families.
Thanks very much for sending in soft toys this week. The children have loved bringing them to school. We have started a new book in literacy called The Sea Saw, in the story a little girl looses her bear. The children have enjoyed labeling their own toy and are looking forward to finding out what happens to Sophia’s bear.
Remember to bring in a teddy or soft toy in to school on Monday – we will be using them during our literacy lesson.
If you are able to share this reminder with other parents we would be very grateful π
This week we looked at some examples of art by Yayoi Kusama, a Japanese artist who is known for her distinctive artwork featuring natural shapes and polka dots.
We loved her giant tentacle sculptures and had a go at creating our own (smaller) version using clay!
On Thursday we learned about staying safe in the sea from one of our amazing teachers who is also a lifeguard with the RNLI.
Ask us if we can remember what each of the beach safety flags mean!
Thank you very much for all your support with spelling at home this term – we really have noticed the boost in confidence that this extra practice has given the children!
This week we have assessed where the children are with spelling phase 2 words. If your child has a set of words in their reading diary we have highlighted words they are still learning to spell in green. If there is no word list in your childβs diary please continue to practise phase 2 words. Once your child is confident with the phase 2 words pleaseΒ move on to phase 3 from the front of the spelling journals. Please send journals into school after half term – well done for all your great practice so far!
ThankΒ you π
A bit of whole class yoga is a lovely way to start the afternoon! π§ββοΈπ§
At Damers we deliver our PSHE curriculum using the Jigsaw scheme of work. We love using the chime to calm our brains and having moments of mindfulness where we focus on our breathing.Β When we are in a circle our soft toy friend Jigsaw Jack helps with our learning. This term we are thinking about βsuccessβ and what this might look and feel like. What success can you see in our photos below?
