Chalkhill 1 portraits

Chalkhill 1 portraits

A very big welcome to Year 1, everyone! πŸ™‚

We’ve been busy settling in and it has been wonderful to see the courage of each and every child for joining in our new routines such as lunch in the hall, strand assemblies and (the very popular!) singing practice.

Here are some pictures of a lovely art session at the end of the week where we created some self-portraits – studying our reflection in the mirror, drawing our features and adding the details that make us unique and special! ❀️✨

Halving and sharing

Halving and sharing

Our maths focus this week is halving and sharing into equal groups. Here are some top tips from Chalkhill:

β€˜Just make it the same on both sides’

β€˜They both have the same, it’s fair’

β€˜One goes here, one goes here…’

Just a reminder that if your child has been booked onto a Sustrans cycling session on Monday to bring their own bike and helmet.

Sustrans have lots of tips for encouraging your child to gain confidence with riding a bike – if you’d like to know more have a look at the video below:

Healthy Week

Healthy Week

We have had such a busy, fitness-filled week and tried lots of new things!

We loved our martial arts lesson with Forfit who showed us how to safely perform different kicks and defence skills. The children were amazing at this and Forfit also offer an afterschool club in Dorchester.Β

We made dens for animals in a forest school session with Mrs P and finished off the week by baking some bread rolls just like The Little Red Hen!Β

As well as all this we started each day with some exercise outside, including whole school dance, zumba and yoga!

Have a lovely weekend and check out our photos below! πŸ™‚

Pond dipping 🐸

Pond dipping 🐸

We spent the morning exploring our beautiful pond area, enjoying the wildflowers and sunshine and searching for signs of life in the water.

We were lucky enough to find tadpoles, froglets, pond skaters, water boatmen and pond snails!

Farm Animal Visitors!

Farm Animal Visitors!

Today the children were very excited to welcome some farm animals in for a visit. The Ranch in Weymouth brought in the animals for us to meet. The children were excited to meet 2 goats, 2 kids and a pony. They were able to stroke them and brush the pony. The children learnt some facts about the animals and were so excited to have them in our play area!

Royal Treasures Hunt πŸ‘‘πŸ’Žβœ¨

We had a fabulous end to the week with all our Coronation activities and celebrations! Thank you to everyone at home for sending in natural materials and/or helping to create a crown at home – they looked magnificent! One of the day’s highlights was searching for the Crown Jewels and other special features of the coronation in the Royal Treasures hunt – ask us how many we found!
