This week in maths we have been thinking about addition and seeing how many different ways we can make a number. We can break the number into 2 parts and talk about the whole number staying the same each time. Here is a video of an activity you can try at home.

Thanks to everyone who came to the stay and session this morning. We hope you enjoyed having a look at some of the different activities we use with the children to help with phonics, reading and writing.
This week in PE we have been exploring the gymnastics equipment. We had traveled in different ways, jumped and tried holding our weight on the ropes.
The children were very excited to discover we’d had visitors to the classroom over the weekend. They set about investigating and writing incident reports so that they could let Mrs Smith know what they thought had happened in our classroom!
We have been exploring five and ten frames in our maths lessons this week. They are such a clear, visual way to help us understand what numbers can ‘look like’.
Today we worked with a partner on a challenge to sort different arrangements of numbers on ten frames. Amazing teamwork, Chalkhill!

What a lovely surprise to have snow this week! We had so much fun catching snowflakes and making footprints and snowballs. We even took some back into the classroom to play with! 🤍

We have loved sharing a book called The Mitten this week, a wintery story based on an old Ukranian folk tale.
We made story maps to help retell the story and discussed the order the animals squeezed into the mitten. It was a great opportunity to practise our ordinal numbers (first, second, third, last) as well!
