We used different skills and media to make spirals of all sizes in our art lesson this week!

This week in maths we have been learning to recognise coins and notes, and comparing their values.

Can you tell someone at home the value of the coins and notes in the picture below?

We learned that concentric circles are circles or rings that have the same centre.

‘It’s like a bull’s eye’

’I saw those inside a tree that had been cut down’

’It makes those circles on the water when you throw a stone in’

We looked at their patterns in nature and great works of art, then explored drawing and painting concentric circles using lots of different media. Our chalk circles were enormous!

Model-making is brilliant for motor skills development, problem-solving, creativity and teamwork. This group persevered and co-operated brilliantly as they constructed their model and wanted to show it to you all!

Our maths focus this week has been on time. We have been ordering the events of our day, learning how to tell the time (o’clock and half past) and practising the days of the week and months of the year.

Chalkhill have some top tips to tell the time:

’When it’s o’clock the long hand is on the 12, if the short hand is on 5 then it’s 5 o’clock’

’You know it is half past when the long hand is pointing straight down’

’If the little hand is in between the numbers it is half past’

We had a whale of a time at the Sea Life Centre! 🐳 Chalkhill, you were a pleasure to take on this trip and a big shout out to all our adult helpers – you were wonderful and we’re so grateful for all your help!

We used natural materials to create our own handmade paintbrushes – twigs, dandelions, leaves, grass and pine branches all found in our local area and school grounds.

Why not go foraging and try making your own paintbrushes at home? Please check with an adult before picking things up and remember to wash your hands after handling 🙂

Chalkhill created a collaborative piece of art this week using a wax resist technique. We drew sea creatures using bright wax crayons and oil pastels, then added a watercolour wash. We worked brilliantly as a team and the finished results were stunning!

We had a fabulous time making lighthouses with our family members! We were inspired to make some brilliant Lego models as well ✨
