Last week

Last week

Just a heads up that we have slightly different teacher days this week:

Remember to wear Christmas jumpers on Wednesday (donations for Save the Children warmly welcomed) and on Friday we plan to watch a festive film or show with popcorn as an end of term treat! πŸŽ…πŸ»πŸΏ

Shhh! ✨🎁

Shhh! ✨🎁

This morning we had an exciting visit to the Secret Shop – a magical place with a team of amazing Christmas elves waiting to help us find our gifts!

Later on we heard the Legend of the Christmas Spider, a folk tale from Ukraine. Lots of us were inspired to make spiders afterwards – we were careful to make sure we gave them 8 legs (our number of the week!)πŸ•·οΈ

We enjoyed another story about ‘eight’ this week – the very funny rhyming book ‘Octopus Socktopus’.

Stay and Play (and phonics this week)

Stay and Play (and phonics this week)

We look forward to seeing you onΒ Monday morningΒ for our next Stay and Play. The focus will be on maths and number learning.

This weeks’ new sounds are z, qu and ch – apologies again for the confusion with the phoneme books and order of learning – we will be doing sh and th next week! We have sent home the first set of tricky words in book bags today along with suggestions for games and activities to help practise with your child.

We’re going on a Pudsey hunt…

We’re going on a Pudsey hunt…

We kicked off our Children in Need walkathon with a Pudsey hunt around school – the children were terrific at working with a partner and taking turns to use their clipboards!

We painted and printed Pudsey faces – unfortunately they still hadn’t dried by hometime but here they are looking bright and colourful!

A great big thank you to everyone for your donations today πŸ™‚

This lovely book gave us lots of opportunities to count to six at storytime today – you can click on the link to hear it being read aloud.

We’ve been using dinosaurs, dice, dominoes and more to explore six.

Can you spot Sid and his Six Dinners in our picollage below? πŸˆβ€β¬›

Funky Fingers!

Funky Fingers!

We have started our funky fingers morning jobs! The children find their table, write their name and then have a different fine motor job each morning. We have been cutting, writing our numbers, practicing our pencil grip, tracing lines, threading and using our pincer grip.

Remembrance Day and phonics

Remembrance Day and phonics

This week we have been thinking about Remembrance Day and all the brave soldiers. Here is a short film that we watched to help us understand why we wear poppies around this time:

We also painted our own poppies, joined in with the 2 minute silence at 11 o’clock and even had poppy-shaped biscuits for dessert with our school lunches!

Our new sounds this week are v, w, x and y. You can watch the video below to see some of the activities and games we have been playing in school. We’re so impressed with all the super practice you are doing at home, the children are getting so confident! πŸ™‚
